On my first day after breakfast Mr Chunnu took me to meet my reed teachers, 12 year old Ruma and her family. I saw Ruma making a bamboo reed on my last visit and the vision of her working on the edge of the field stayed with me. I also had some ideas I wanted to try out, and was keen to try a hands on approach and learn a new skill. Ruma and her extended family greeted me with big smiles and very soon they (and curious neighbors) clustered round keen to show me their craft. To begin with our words were limited but soon our textile language kicked in and we were soon in full communication mode! Ruma was very patient while I tried to get my head round the new technique, and by the end of the day I got the hang of it (and a sore finger) The beautiful countryside, big welcoming smiles, and using my hands to make filled my mind with new ideas.
