there was thick fog over Dhaka and the first thing we saw was water in the fields outside the city. we landed well and soon realised things take their time here and that the Bangladeshis love to jump ques. it seems to be the national sport but at the same time causes outbreaks of shouting and gestures!
the airport was very busy with people running round in organised chaos and they knew exactly what they were doing, which was not how we felt! The road to the hotel was a short one but the traffic was crazy, lots of colourful crinkled buses with rickshaws and green babay taxis weaving in and out of the busses tooting contstantly.
a big thank you to the ray of sunshine Nahin from the British Council who drove 8km in 2 and a half hours to come and meet us.
the 16th of December is a very special day for Bangladesh, its the anniversary of their independence from West Pakistan and Nahin will pick us up and take us to see the celebrations in the city! more pictures on this tomorrow night
much love from Dhaka
